More Info:
Very nice horse camp! There are 5 private camps each with 2 corrals. Four sites are reservable, one is drop in only. If you need more than 2 corrals you may bring in your own pens (1 or 2) if your site space permits.
There are also 2 group camps. One for 33 horses and 65 people @ $200/night, the other is for 25 horses and 65 people @ $135/night.
There is a central restroom and showers with flush toilets and hot water. Showers are 25c for 5 minutes so bring quarters! There is also a chemical toilet near the private camps.
There are bear boxes for your food. They recommend everything be put in the box but they are not too large (can fit four flip top containers) so ended up leaving coolers in the trailer. Be sure to take your trash to the large trash container each night. Also racoons can be pests so be sure to put everything away at night or while away from camp. We did not have any bears but were there in mid-June. The camp hosts said it was a little early for the bears. Lots of deer though, keep your hay locked up if you can!
The trails are fantastic! Especially through the redwoods. Lots of creek crossings.
You can get a park map from the Intrepretive Assoc. for $2.60. Send a check and request to: HRIA, P.O. Box 276, Weott, CA 95571.
If you don't want to ride every day, the park is located on the Avenue of The Giants and you can spend all day sightseeing if you want (we did!). The visitors center is very interesting and has the history of the area and the great flood. Also check out the Founder Tree etc. in the park.
Albee Creek Trail
Riding in the Redwoods and stopping for a drink!
A well deserved roll in the sandpit on our return to camp!
